PAOC provides a broad and integrated program of education and research in the earth, atmospheric, oceanographic, and climate sciences.
The phenomena under study are complex and involve many scientific disciplines - geophysics, geochemistry, physical and chemical oceanography, meteorology, atmospheric chemistry, and planetary science. Instruction is provided in all of these principal areas, with an emphasis on a combination of theoretical, observational, and modeling approaches. Field work is also an important part of our activities with opportunities to engage in observational work all over the world, on land and sea, the latter in collaboration with our partners at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution on Cape Cod.
PAOC is also involved in outreach activities to local schools and museums and collaborates on undergraduate educational projects with other institutions.
