Graduate students in the Program in Atmospheres, Oceans and Climate (PAOC) are part of MIT's Earth, Atmospheric and Planetary Sciences Department (EAPS).  EAPS also participates in the Joint Program with the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. The majority of graduate students are in the Doctoral Program. A Masters degree is not required to enter the Doctoral Program, and students in the Doctoral Program receive full funding that includes a stipend, tuition, and health insurance. Accepted students visit during an open house. Prospective students are also welcome to contact faculty and arrange visits earlier in the process, including prior to submitting their application. Admission is highly competitive.

Undergraduates study Atmospheres, Oceans and Climate for the Bachelor of Science Degree in the Department of Earth, Atmospheric and Planetary Sciences. Both major and minor programs are available. Undergraduate students participate in research through the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP).
