Bio and Interests
I am currently pursuing a PhD in geology and geophysics through the Massachusetts Institute of Technology/Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (MIT/WHOI) Joint Program in Oceanography. My research combines geochemical and geophysical investigations in order to understand submarine eruption dynamics. While at WHOI, I have been involved in field and laboratory studies of volcanic features at Axial Volcano, Havre Volcano, the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, and the Galápagos Platform. These projects have allowed me to become immersed in the technical aspects of sonar imaging, remote characterization of the seafloor, and signal processing. My research has also enabled me to collaborate in science outreach with the BBC, Atlantic Productions, and several blogs. In addition to my research, I enjoy ultralight backpacking, alpinism, kayaking, and sea-going teaching experiences.
