Research Description
Fatima Husain is a Cambridge-based science writer and lab technician in the EAPS Summons Lab. Before joining the Summons Lab, Fatima earned her Master's degree from the MIT Graduate Program in Science Writing, where she focused on writing about the geosciences. In addition to writing for NOVA | PBS, MIT News, the MIT Slice of Life Blog, and EAPS News, she works in the lab to tell different kinds of stories — ones starring lipid biomarkers, tiny molecular fossils that archive Earth's history. In the past, Fatima focused on lacustrine long-chain alkenones and branched glycerol dialkyl glycerol tetraether lipids, which she used to reconstruct the Holocene climate history of northern Alaska. Additionally, Fatima conducts science outreach activities around the Northeast and coordinates the weekly EAPS Instagram Takeovers. She can be reached at fhusain@mit.edu and on Twitter @fatimagulhusain.
