MIT Wallace Observatory Star Party: 2016 Perseid Meteor Shower (Friday)
Date Time Location
August 12th, 2016 8:30pm-12:00am MIT Wallace Astrophysical Observatory - 50 Groton Rd., Westford, Massachusetts
MIT Wallace Astrophysical Observatory will be open to the public for a very special Perseids meteor shower on Thursday August 11, 2016. Gate will open at 8:30pm, tours will start at 9pm. Providing that the sky is clear, we could see 150-200 meteors per hour! A short tour of the observatory will be given in the first half of the evening. We plan on viewing Mars, Saturn, M13 the Great Cluster, M57 the Ring Nebula and more. Following that we will stand outside and watch the meteor shower in the Perseus constellation. Free hot cocoa and tea will be provided! Feel free to bring your own binoculars, cameras, blankets, chairs etc.

Children are strongly encouraged to attend - though, children under 4yo may find it difficult to reach the telescope on their own. We strongly recommend wearing long-sleaved clothing.

Space is limited so you must sign up for tickets using Eventbrite. If you cannot make it, please change your RSVP so others may attend! If you have any questions about the event or problems sigining up please email: wao@mit.edu

Event is weather dependent so we will inform those on the list if there are any changes. We will make a final weather prediction 24-48 hrs prior to event. If rain or heavy clouds are certain we will cancel the event and email you via your registration email. And yes, we do have a restroom.
