Hydrography, Flow and Mixing Near the Crest of the East Pacific Rise Between 9 and 10N

In the context of a recent interdisciplinary project investigating the
dispersal of larvae from hydrothermal vent fields on the East Pacific
Rise extensive physical oceanographic measurements were collected, and
regional numerical circulation models were constructed. One of the
mysteries concerns how larvae can disperse along the ridge in this
region which is associated with a mean cross-ridge flow. In my seminar
I will show that the answer is related to dynamical processes closely
associated with the ridge-crest topography. The findings are relevant
for other regions of the global mid-ocean ridge system.
