A Process of Inter-Ocean Exchange in Relation to the Ocean-Climate Meridional Overturning Circulation (MOC) of the South Atlantic

The ocean is inextricably linked to the climate system via the meridional overturning circulation (MOC), which is part and parcel of the ocean circulation. Dynamical processes of upper and deep ocean vortices and interocean exchanges in relation to the MOC of the South Atlantic using simplified model simulations and observations will be presented. In the South Atlantic, the dynamics of Agulhas leakage via rings involve cyclonic eddies that can be laterally coupled via dipole dynamics. Such mutual-advection of mesoscale eddies provide a controlling tendency in ocean eddy propagation speeds and trajectories.
