Title: "Adjoint modeling applications in atmospheric chemistry"
Abstract: Adjoint modeling has wide ranging applications throughout atmospheric chemistry, from sensitivity analysis to inverse modeling. Compared to more traditional methodologies, using an adjoint model can improve efficiency of receptor-oriented source attributions and spatial resolution of emission estimates. Two examples provided in my talk will concern (1) a regional study estimating the spatial origin of black carbon that is transported to and deposited on the Asian glaciers, and (2) a global study estimating carbon monoxide emissions globally and at high resolution using multiple satellite datasets.
