Professor Pierrehumbert (Professor of Physics at Oxford University) with give a special lecture as part of Climate Symposium week.
Title:
Habitability of M star planets: the next trillion years.
Abstract:
Unlike G stars such as the Sun, M stars can live practically forever on the Main Sequence, and evolve very little during that time. Does that mean that M star planets that are able to retain or regenerate a suitable atmosphere have an almost unlimited time for complex live to emerge? In this lecture, I will discuss the factors that ultimately limit the lifespan of habitability for planets orbiting M stars. Many of the same considerations apply to K star planets as well.
