The Drake Equation
Date Time Location
December 19th, 2012 4:00pm-6:00pm Online
Join us this Wednesday at 4pm EST to pick up where we left off last time with Dr. +Sara Seager.  +Alberto Conti, +Jason Kalirai  along with your humble host +Tony Darnell will be talking about the venerable Drake equation.

With all of the recent discoveries and new science surrounding exoplanets, how does this impact the various terms in the Drake equation?  Is it still relevant?

We will go through each term in the equation to see what the current thinking is about them as well as speculate on some of the later terms and talk about whether we may actually be able to find an extraterrestrial civilization in our (or any) lifetime.

While you're waiting (with baited breath, no doubt) for the hangout, here's a wonderful online tool you can play with to learn about the various impacts of the many terms in the Drake Equation:

Also, we will offer some advice for women seeking to enter careers in science and  has written an article that applies to both genders and career levels:

As always, leave any comments or questions here and I'll be monitoring them on the YouTube page as well!

This will be our last hangout for the year and it promises to be an interesting one, don't miss it!

See you there...
