Title: Chemically caving into climate: Desert, permafrost, and monsoon
Abstract:
Stalagmite geochemical records can reveal the response of key components of the climate system during global climate change. I will outline three examples of such application with new results:
i. Variations in North African rainfall, and its relationship to migration of early hominins
ii. The stability of Asian permafrost, and its relationship to Arctic sea-ice
iii. Using calcium isotopes to quantify monsoon rainfall changes during abrupt climate events
